John 7: 16-18
16 Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. 17 Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.18 Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

I love reading the New Testament (especially the Gospels!), because this when we get to see Jesus' life and the way He lived it.  It's such an important thing to see, because Jesus lived a perfect life, He reached out to ones in need, spoke to and loved the unlikeable, and served others.  He showed us the life He wants us to live.
In these verses he is at the temple courts standing up and teaching the crowds about God.  He says something that not only speaks to them, but to you and I.  "Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him."  We are to share God's love and teach others about Him like He is doing here, but I think often we can get caught up in what WE are doing and forget about Him.  We aren't supposed to do it for ourselves or to make us look good or to put on an act, but rather because WE LOVE HIM and we WANT to obey Him!  Lay your selfish ambitions at the cross and let God use you in incredible ways to bring glory to Him and His Kingdom.
Dear God,
I pray today that every time we reach out to someone or tell someone about You or even just do a kind servants act that we would do it completely and utterly for you.  I ask that you help us give up our selfishness to do what you call us to do all for your glory!  It is in Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
