Just finished my sixth trip to Savannah, Georgia, and I fall in love this city more and more each time.
I have so many beautiful memories from Savannah with my amazing mom, and so I want to share with you some of the "Do's & Don't's", places to go, and places to skip with you all!
RESTARAUNTS & CAFE'S
A total MUST! It is the BEST "local's"and authentic coffee shop in Savannah! Very artsy, lots of baked goods, coffee drinks, and of course the tea is fantastic. My mom and I go practically everyday during our trip to Savannah.
Now, this may not be a 100% cafe, but its pretty close. The Paris Market is a boutique all based on Paris, authentic goods from France, and in general it's a beautiful place. But in the back corner of the boutique is a cafe set up where they have coffee, tea, infused water, macaroons, cheese, wine, and all the tasty French goodies. I love to go in just for a break from shopping on Broughton to get a little "pick me up!"
This Irish pub is THE PLACE TO GO for a real hardy and authentic Irish meal. After being in Ireland myself I can attest to the statement that, yes, their food is truly authentic. They have a fantastic Tender Pot Roast, Shepherds Pie, and Chocolate Eclair. If you are in Savannah then you have to go here for dinner AT LEAST once!
I went here on a whim on my last trip to Savannah, and it's a favorite now! They serve all different kinds of authentic British and Irish pies. I personally love the Chicken Pot Pie, Cottage Pie, and Shepherds Pie!
I realize I keep saying "this is the place to go," but I am serious with this one! The Gryphon is a beautiful tea room that serves more than tea and sandwiches. They have DELICIOUS and beautiful meals. The place itself is beautiful, and has a beautiful story as well! It used to be a little drug store in the heart of Savannah, and now it is a beautiful tea room that has preserved the best parts of what it used to be. It still even has the beautiful wooden bar where the kids would have sat eating their ice like George Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life!
.The Public.
This little bar and restaurant is a favorite. It's definitely a local's favorite too. It's just a fun place to go with family or friends to chill, chat, and eat. The vibes are very New York city, and I LOVE it. My top favorites are the Danny Burger and the Teriyaki Salmon (especially this one)!
.Leopold's Ice Cream.
LITERALLY THE BEST! My mom and I go practically every day when we are in Savannah. Not only is there ice cream SUPERB, but the entire story and decor of the place is outstanding. Nothing like ice cream in an old fashioned diner setting with authentic Hollywood movie decor in every corner and on every wall!
.The Funky Brunch Cafe.
This is also a breakfast MUST when you are in Savannah! The tables have built in griddles, and you get to make your own pancakes! It's a fun thing for everyone whether it's by yourself, with your spouse, or with the entire family.
.Blends.
This a lovely coffee and brunch place! This trip was our first time there, and it was FANTASTIC! Their waffles were the bomb.com! AND their iced tea was hands down some of the best I have had!
.Goose Feather's Cafe.
This is one of our new favorites for brunch! It was the perfect mix of artisan France and NYC! Not only was it an adorable cafe, but their food was off the charts!
SHOPPING
.The Red Clover.
This is one of my favorite boutiques in Savannah! You won't find one anywhere else! They have beautiful jewelry, on-trend clothing, cute shoes, and it's all incredibly affordable! I always come back home with a bag full from them.
.Harper.
Harper is actually a higher end sister store to The Red Clover! So you can expect the same vibe- lots of beautiful things, but it's just more pricier with a high quality of product. My mom and I both love it there, and always try to leave with something. This year I got a darling opal necklace that I see myself wearing probably everyday, ha!
.Terra Cotta.
This is an adorable little boutique with soaps, clothing, shoes, jewelry, mens things, and even baby toys and clothes! It's a quality boutique where you'll find things you won't find anywhere else!
.Broughton Street.
If you are a shoppoholic like myself, then this is the street to go to. I walk down Bull Street to get to it, and from there either direction you go isn't a mistake! Just a few of my favorites: Urban Outfitters, H&M, Gap, J.Crew, Loft, and Banana Republic. On top of all the big stores we all know there are fun little stores and boutiques special to Savannah.
THINGS TO DO
.Walk.
My suggestion is to WALK EVERYWHERE! Parking is expensive, it's hard to find, and we find it so much more fun, beautiful, and easy to walk. You see so much more as well!
.VRBO or AirBnB.
Our first couple times we went to Savannah we stayed at a hotel, and it was a nice hotel- just not authentic. So the last three times we have rented an apartment through VRBO, and it has been even more better than we could have imagined! The last two girls trips with my mom we have stayed at the most darling apartment on Whitaker across from Forsyth Park, and last spring when my dad joined us we stayed in a very modern and chic apartment just a few steps away from The Gallery Espresso.
.See A Show.
Go see a show while you're in Savannah! You can never go wrong with a show at the oldest theatre in a America that is still open and has never been closed! It's The Savannah Theatre. All of their shows are entertaining for absolutely anyone and everyone.
This last trip we went and saw To Catch A Their during the Alfred Hitchcock month at The Lucas Theatre.
.Tours.
There are countless old house tours! We've done just about all of them I believe, and the John Mercer House is my favorite! The Ghost Tours can be a bit cheesy, but still fun. And make sure you go on a tour of the historical sites! They truly are amazing, and they make you appreciate Savannah so much more!
.Tybee Island.
If you're in Savannah for longer than a few days then take a day trip out to Tybee for a beach day! This time was our first time going, and it was fun! It was crowed, but nothing like Myrtle Beach. My family goes to Cape San Blas, Florida, and it was nothing like that. For a day it was nice though, PLUS it was fun taking pictures under the pier!
.Milan Day Spa.
Pamper yourself! My mom and I got facials here, and it was fantastic! I got the Deep Pore Cleansing Facial, and my mom got the Firm Skin Facial. They pampered us in their darling salon, and we definitely go again!
THINGS NOT TO DO
.The River.
I know- you're probably saying, "What?!" I just do NOT like the river. It is gross, smells like pee, tourist souvenir shops right after another, and a bunch of bars and restaurants that don't seem very appealing. If you want get it out of your system then take a stroll down for a picture or two (like me), but in my opinion it shouldn't be at the top of your to-do list in Savannah.
.Hotels.
Like I said previously- I prefer the authenticity of staying a VRBO or AirBnB apartment or house rather than a hotel. And it can even end up being the same price or cheaper in some cases!
